Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does it work if I sign on with AdvisoryCloud?
First, you’ll answer a questionnaire or book a call with our team so that we can make sure we can help you with the types of professional opportunities you are interested in. Then, if there’s a fit and we have availability, we’ll create a proposal showing you how we can help you join advisory boards, publish thought leadership and grow your professional brand. If you then sign on with AdvisoryCloud, you’ll have an onboarding and matching call with our team, where we’ll match you with boards, establish your Executive Profile on AdvisoryCloud, help with your professional brand positioning, and establish goals for the year ahead. You’ll then have an online dashboard you can use to see all this, get inquiries for professional opportunities, and view and edit your online profile. And finally, you’ll get a monthly email from professional brand manager at AdvisoryCloud with updates, recommendations and next steps - you can respond at any time to these emails and we’ll make updates to your online profile for you or help with anything else.

  • How do you help me grow my professional brand?
We do this in a number of ways. First, we’ll create your Executive Profile for you on AdvisoryCloud.com, where you can use this link in any of your professional profiles. On this page, people can connect with you about only the types of professional opportunities you are interested in - board seats, C-Suite job openings, startup investments, networking introductions and anything else that interests you. This is very different than LinkedIn where junior professionals and sales people are reaching out to you about things that have no interest to you. The other major advantage is that you can email us at any time any updates you want to your profile page and we’ll make them for you throughout the year. Second, we’ll rewrite your biography for you every six months to incorporate any new accomplishments, areas you want to highlight, or how you want to use it for a specific type of professional opportunity.

  • How do you help me publish thought leadership?
We first help identify the topics for you to write on that will help the most in aligning you for your professional goals and brand. Then we help by providing an outline and questions for you that make writing it or shooting a video far easier. Depending on the plan you are on, we can even help with editing but that will all be covered in our proposal. The other major thing we do is help keep you on schedule with publishing a certain number of pieces a year - because this is set up in your onboarding call, we help remind you throughout the year and get you started on it so that it makes it 10x easier to do.

  • Why would I use my AdvisoryCloud profile instead of my LinkedIn profile?
On LinkedIn, LinkedIn is in control of what they show people who visit your page. Plus, the people reaching out to you are often junior professionals and salespeople. With your Executive Profile on AdvisoryCloud, people can connect with you about only the types of professional opportunities you are interested in - board seats, C-Suite job openings, startup investments, networking introductions and anything else that interests you. You can use your unique AdvisoryCloud URL in your biography, social media profiles, business cards, email signature and any other way you like. The other major advantage is that you can email us at any time any updates you want to your profile page and we’ll make them for you throughout the year. In a nutshell, you can stay on LinkedIn and take a passive approach, or come to AdvisoryCloud and we’ll take an active approach for you towards your professional future.

  • Why do you only take on a limited number of clients a year?
We only take on a limited number of clients every year so that we can provide a personalized level of service to our existing clients, many of which have been with us for 5-10 years. We also will be very straightforward if we don’t feel we are the right fit to help you reach your professional goals. We are looking for long term relationships with our clients.

  • How much does it cost?
We have three different tiers you can pick from, for as little as $195/month up to $395/month. All plans are billed annually as we create a plan for you for the entire year. We normally have a new client set up fee starting at $495 but we are actually waiving that right now for any new clients. We do not have a waiting list right now, which we sometimes do as we only take on certain number of clients a year. In your proposal it will lay out all the options for you.

You can be on as many as you’d like when you join AdvisoryCloud. We have some clients on 2 boards and others on 10. But you can be on 50 if you like. When you join a board, their board meetings are automatically added to your calendar. And at any time you can share ideas and insights in their digital boardroom.

  • Am I qualified for being on boards?
Absolutely yes. Companies are looking for a wide-range of ideas and feedback. And because an advisory board on AdvisoryCloud can be anywhere between 10 to several hundred people, they want the diversity of opinions. They want all ages, races, genders, locations and areas of expertise. There’s just no way that a small advisory board can have that, which is why we are seeing the trend of having larger and larger advisory boards - we’ve even heard of 10,000 person advisory boards now happening given how video-conferencing has changed everything.

  • Do I get paid for being on boards?
You do not get paid for being on boards on AdvisoryCloud. Most people don’t realize that on boards worldwide only a small percentage of them are getting paid a salary, others are leveraging the networking opportunities, the ability to immediately add board work to their resume, the validation of their personal brand and expertise, and using board experience to position themselves for other types of professional opportunities and enhance their long-term career earnings potential (qualification for senior-level jobs, investment opportunities, increased compensation packages and more). Plus, it’s incredibly exciting to get a behind-the-scenes look at interesting businesses and what they are doing.

  • What is the time commitment?
The time commitment is completely up to you. The primary thing is to attend video-conference board meetings when you can, which are always under an hour. But even if you can’t attend live, you can always view them on-demand after or simply read the board meeting executive summary afterwards which only takes a couple of minutes. As you join boards, the meetings are automatically added to your calendar. Then, if you every want to share any ideas between meetings, you can do that in the digital boardroom if you like. The company advisory boards generally have quarterly board meetings, and if you also join a peer advisory board those meetings are monthly.

However you can join any board that interests you at all - and often times it’s better to join boards in other industries and bring your unique perspective from your industry so it stands out. And you can also leave a board any time you want if the company is just not interesting to you anymore. Every day we are adding more boards, and have the largest collection of advisory boards worldwide, and they are exclusively available on AdvisoryCloud.

  • Who else are on the boards?
You’ll see who else is on the boards during the quarterly board meetings, even though not everyone attends each meeting. Companies are looking for a wide-range of ideas and feedback. And because an advisory board on AdvisoryCloud can be anywhere between 10 to several hundred people, they want the diversity of opinions. • Is there ever in-person meetings?
There are not. Our mission is to make it incredibly easy for businesses of all sizes and types to build and manage an advisory board. Doing them through video-conference quarterly meetings and a digital boardroom is what makes this possible. And it really helps for your schedule too since you can view any board meetings on-demand afterwards if you couldn’t attend live.

  • What types of companies do you have?
We have 100s of companies and new advisory boards being started every day. Our primary specialty is with private companies. This can include private companies of all sizes, both in the United States and Worldwide, as well as family-run companies, small businesses, startups and non-profits. While we don’t focus on public companies, we are actually starting to see teams of larger public companies build an advisory board on AdvisoryCloud. So for example, Tesla could build an advisory board for their marketing team - but this is a new trend that is just starting. Our primary area is advisory boards being set up by CEOs and founders from private companies.

  • How are your advisory boards different than others?
There is no such thing anymore as a normal board. Covid pushed all boards, even public companies, into using video-conference for their meetings. Our primary difference is that our advisory boards are often much larger. Plus when a company uses our platform to establish their advisory board, they agree to anyone being able to immediately join their board (once they agree to confidentiality for anything shared). The trend we are seeing is that companies want a much wider range of ages and expertise on their advisory board to get a wider and more diverse set of insights. This can mean an advisory board of 30 people or even an advisory board of 3,000. The more advisors, the broader the range of ideas and feedback for the company. We expect even public companies will start to move towards aspects of this in the coming years.
